In 2017, there were 191 FTZs active during the year with a total of 329 active production operations throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
The largest industries accounting for zone production activity were in the oil refining, automotive, electronics, pharmaceutical, and machinery/equipment sectors.
Key economic activities conducted in FTZs are production/manufacturing and warehousing/distribution.
