Dear Members and Supporters:
Like businesses and families around the country, the NAFTZ is working to manage and adjust to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the President’s declaration of a national emergency this afternoon, we want to provide you an update on our situation and to assure you that we have been working on a continuity plan now for several weeks. That plan is in now place to allow staff to work remotely from home with little or no disruption in the operations of the association. We have not officially closed the office, but NAFTZ staff have the option to work from home if they so choose.
We also want to update you on the situation regarding the NAFTZ Spring Seminar, scheduled for the third week in May in Minneapolis. We are monitoring the evolving situation closely including information from the Minnesota Department of Health. But, with more than two months until that conference, our current plan is to hold the event as scheduled. However, we want to assure you that if we have to make a change in plans regarding the Spring Seminar, we will base the decision on guidance and directives from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and federal, state, and local health authorities and will make every effort do so in sufficient time to allow conference registrants and speakers to adjust travel plans with a minimum of disruption. The NAFTZ Board has created a COVID-19 Response Team that is already at work to help manage this process.
In the meantime, we continue to receive registrations and hotel room reservations for the conference. In our discussions with the hotel, they have explained the special precautions they are taking to protect their guests, including widely available hand sanitizers and special cleaning and sanitary protocols.
In closing, we urge everyone to adhere to recommended public health precautions to keep yourselves, your families, friends, communities, and especially the high-risk population healthy and reduce the risk of spreading infection.
Please feel free to contact us with any updates, questions, or concerns.
