Foreign-Trade Zone Administrator

Basic Functions

Maintain the Foreign-Trade Zone inventory and recordkeeping systems, and import documentation as required by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations for two locations totaling approximately 1 million square ft. Prepare company reports required to support U.S. Customs documents and forms.

Position Summary

The FTZ Inventory Administrator reports to the Customs Compliance Manager.

Komar Distribution Services (KDS) provides logistical and supply chain services for importers of sleepwear and intimate apparel. To reduce the costs associated with the importation of products and improve efficiency, KDS operates its Distribution Centers under the auspices of the U.S. Foreign-Trade Zone Program. In order to retain this designation and the associated cost reductions, the company must remain in strict compliance with CBP regulations governing foreign-trade zones.

A key element of this compliance is maintaining inventory systems accurately reflecting all admissions and consumption associated with the foreign-trade zone so that upon demand of CBP a complete accounting for all foreign-trade zone merchandise can be presented. It is the primary function of the FTZ Inventory Administrator to maintain the inventory systems and supporting documentation which are required to record all activity directly related to the foreign-grade zone and accurately account for movement of merchandise through the zone and between locations within the Zone.

The FTZ Inventory Administrator prepares daily, weekly and quarterly foreign-trade zone reports for CBP and assists in the preparation of annual reports to U.S. Customs and the Foreign-Trade Zone Board.

The FTZ Inventory Administrator functions as the on-site backup to the Customs Compliance Manager for foreign-trade zone operational activities at their site. The FTZ administrator will manage a staff of two.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Updates all foreign-trade zone inventory systems required to document the flow of merchandise through the FTZ.
  • Prepares daily, weekly and quarterly CBP FTZ forms to document the admission to and removal of imported merchandise through the FTZ and to report the Harbor Maintenance fee due.
  • Maintains the files of supporting documentation as required by CBP regulations.
  • Assists in preparation of any additional required FTZ reports.
  • Functions as the on-site backup to the Customs Compliance Manager for FTZ and import/export operational activities.

Position Requirements

The FTZ Inventory Administrator should possess inventory management business experience in a distribution environment comparable to the company’s.  The FTZ Inventory Administrator must be detail oriented and have good communication skills. A working knowledge of CBP Import and FTZ Regulations and other governmental agency regulations pertaining to import activities is preferred.
