Census Report Confirms Importance of Imports to U.S. Manufacturing

The continuing importance of the foreign-trade zones (FTZ) program was highlighted by a report this morning from the U.S. Census Bureau on the growing number of U.S. companies that are exporting and importing. In its annual “Profile of U.S. Importing and Exporting Companies,” Census reports that in 2012, 304,900 U.S. companies exported goods to foreign markets, while 185,700 imported goods. Global Satellite Maker to Utilize FTZ Program at AZ Facility

In an article posted today on AZCentral.com, it was revealed that satellite manufacturer Orbital Sciences Corporation (OSC) is expected to build 81 satellites at its Gilbert, Arizona facility over a three year period. This $3 billion effort, which will supply major companies like Iridium Communications, is expected to “strengthen worldwide connections and help air-traffic controllers keep closer tabs on jetliners as they slip out of radar over Earth’s vast oceans.” … Read More
